The rich soil of the Sacramento Valley, situated between the Sacramento River and the Sierra Nevada Mountains, nourishes some of the finest produce in the world, which may be found in the farmers' markets in and around Chico. Many private farms and estates throughout Sacramento Valley manage their own small markets where the experience touring the grounds and sampling fruit and nuts fresh from the trees is unforgettable.

In the outskirts of Chico and near just about every city in Sacramento Valley, the usual chain malls may be found, which provide anything available in larger towns within a short drive. The area is also rich with history, and for every city in Sacramento Valley with a story to tell there is at least one antique shop generally run by the local historian.
